DC is unbelievably cold today... I even saw flurries earlier in the afternoon... yet everyone seems to be out because ...it's Superbowl Sunday!

All I can think about is the 125 people killed in an explosion at a market in Baghdad. I can't even imagine the carnage -- picture some supermarket (the US equivalent) where an explosion killed 125 people... try to imagine what 125 dead, mutilated and bloodied bodies would look like piled up in one location... The explosion was so large that hundreds more were injured and three buildings were destroyed.

It's so far removed from our consciousness apparently, that faced with this news, most people would rather talk about the superbowl -- a psuedo-war-type distraction of no historical signficance whatsoever... "What did you do during the war, Grandpa?" -- I watched the superbowl. And the winners were...?!?

This site is certainly not idiot-proof since I have managed to blunder in and am already embarrassing myself.

While this is technically the first post of my new journal, it's actually the 3rd freaking time I've tried to post it... so my clever introductory comments have gone out the window, and now I'm just determined to make sure I've figured this out so that I can log off and go to bed.

I created this journal on a whim, and now I have nothing to say for myself.
In the future I expect I'll write whenever I've got a bee in my bonnet (I'll tire of the puns eventually, I'm sure!) but for the moment I'm just establishing my presence and making sure everything works.

Well, I created this journal as a bit of a lark and now I don't have much to say. I expect in the future (when I get a bee in my bonnet, so to speak) I'll ruminate over all sorts of things, but this entry is really just to establish my presence and make sure everything works.
